Character Analysis — Josie: Speed, Combos, and Advanced Tech

2025-06-11 7 min read Character Guides

Josie is the speedster of the Dan the Man roster — a whirlwind of kicks and flips that sacrifices raw durability for unmatched mobility and combo potential. She is the character of choice for players who prefer an aggressive, in-your-face playstyle.

Josie's Strengths

Unmatched Attack Speed

Josie's basic attacks come out faster than any other character's. Her Quick Jab can interrupt enemy attacks that have already started their animation — a capability unique to Josie. This makes her the best character for reactive defense — you do not need to predict attacks when you can interrupt them on reaction.

360-Degree Coverage with Flip Kick

The Flip Kick is Josie's signature move and arguably the best crowd-control tool in the game. It hits enemies in front of and behind Josie simultaneously with a single input. When surrounded, spam Flip Kick to clear space. No other character can defend all angles with a single move.

Wall Jump Opens New Positioning Options

Josie can kick off walls to change direction mid-air. This opens up attack angles that other characters simply cannot reach — she can bounce between two walls to stay airborne for extended periods, raining down aerial attacks on enemies below. In stages with vertical geometry, Josie is untouchable.

Josie's Weaknesses

Lowest Health Pool

Josie has approximately 25% less base health than Dan. She cannot afford to trade hits with enemies. Every mistake is costly, and two or three solid hits from a boss can end a Josie run. Prioritize Max Health upgrades second (after Kick Damage) to give yourself a survivable margin of error.

Low Per-Hit Damage

Josie hits fast but hits light. You need more hits to kill the same enemy compared to Dan. This means longer combat encounters and more opportunities to make mistakes. The Hurricane Dance special move partially compensates for this, but your special is on cooldown far more often than it is available.

Struggles Against Armored Enemies

Josie's light, fast attacks bounce off armored enemies without dealing meaningful damage. Against shield bearers and heavy bruisers, you must use charged kicks (hold the kick button) to break through their guard. This goes against Josie's natural playstyle of rapid attacks, creating an awkward rhythm shift in armored fights.

Josie Tech

Josie can chain three Flip Kicks in a row if you time the inputs correctly. After the first Flip Kick lands, input the second during the recovery frames, and the third immediately after. This triple Flip Kick sequence deals massive damage and keeps enemies stun-locked for its full duration. Master this — it is the core of Josie's damage output.

Optimal Build for Josie

Upgrade priority: Kick Damage → Max Health → Attack Speed → Special Cooldown → Movement Speed. Kick damage is her primary stat since her best moves are kicks. Health is essential given her fragility. Attack speed makes her already-fast attacks nearly instant. Special cooldown lets her use Hurricane Dance more frequently, which is her safest damage window.

Josie is a high-skill, high-reward character. She demands precision but delivers results that no other character can match in the hands of a skilled player. If you enjoy fast-paced, technical gameplay, Josie is your fighter.
