Beyond the main campaign stages, Dan the Man hides a wealth of secret content — bonus levels, hidden rooms filled with treasure, and quirky easter eggs that reference classic arcade games. This guide catalogues every known secret and exactly how to unlock each one.
Hidden Level: The Underground Arena
Location: Stage 5, after the second checkpoint. Look for a cracked wall on the left side of the screen, just past the area where you fight the wave of shield bearers. The crack is subtle — a faint diagonal line cutting across the stone texture — but once you spot it, the discovery is unforgettable.
How to access: Use a charged heavy attack (hold the punch button until Dan's fist glows) directly on the cracked wall. The wall will crumble revealing a downward staircase. Descend into the Underground Arena — a hidden fighting pit where you face five consecutive waves of increasingly difficult enemies. Survive all five waves and you will be rewarded with the Gladiator's Belt, a rare accessory that increases your combo timer by 40%.
The Gladiator's Belt is one of only three items in the game that modify the combo timer. Combined with combo-extending abilities, you can chain combos across entire stages — massively boosting your coin income per run.
Secret Room: The Developer's Arcade
Location: Stage 8, near the end of the level. After defeating the mini-boss (the giant robot with laser eyes), backtrack to the left instead of exiting through the door on the right. About two screens back, you will find a retro arcade cabinet that was not there before defeating the boss.
How to access: Interact with the arcade cabinet by standing next to it and pressing the attack button. This transports you to the Developer's Arcade — a secret room styled like an 80s arcade, complete with neon lights and chiptune music. Inside, you can play a mini-game that is essentially a simplified version of Space Invaders using Dan's sprite. Achieving a high score of 10,000+ points unlocks the Retro Blaster weapon skin.
Easter Egg: The Golden Chicken
Location: Stage 2, the marketplace section. At the very beginning of the marketplace, there is a chicken wandering around. Most players ignore it or accidentally kill it during combat. Do not kill the chicken. Instead, stand still next to it for exactly 10 seconds.
The chicken will lay a golden egg, which you can collect for an instant 500 coins. This can be repeated once per playthrough of Stage 2. It is a small but welcome boost early in the game when coins are scarce.
Hidden Level: The Rooftop Chase
Location: Stage 11. In the section where you are running across rooftops, there is a gap between two buildings that looks like it should kill you if you fall. It does not. Jump into the gap intentionally. Instead of dying, Dan lands on a lower rooftop and triggers a secret chase sequence where you must run from an indestructible enemy while avoiding obstacles.
Reward: Completing the Rooftop Chase without taking damage unlocks the Parkour Master achievement and a permanent +5% movement speed bonus. This bonus stacks with movement speed upgrades, making it one of the most valuable hidden rewards in the game.
Easter Egg: Nostalgia Mode
On the main menu, enter the Konami Code (Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right) using the keyboard arrow keys. Secret Boss: Shadow Dan
Location: Stage 14. Throughout the stage, you will occasionally see a dark silhouette of Dan watching from the background. If you clear the stage without using any special moves (only punches and kicks), the final boss chamber will instead contain Shadow Dan — a mirror-match boss with identical abilities to your own character but significantly higher stats.
Defeating Shadow Dan is arguably the hardest challenge in the main campaign, but the reward is worth it: the Shadow Cloak, which grants brief invincibility frames at the start of every combat encounter. This is one of the best items in the game for Survival Mode.
Shadow Dan scales with your current level, so over-leveling will not help. The fight demands pure mechanical skill — learn his attack pattern, which mirrors your own move set, and exploit the slight delay between his actions.
