Survival Mode Guide — How to Reach Wave 50 and Beyond

2025-06-27 9 min read Advanced Guides

Survival Mode is Dan the Man's premier endgame challenge — an endless gauntlet of enemy waves that scales in difficulty with each passing round. There are no checkpoints, no continues, and health pickups become scarce after Wave 20. This guide covers everything you need to reach Wave 50 and beyond.

How Survival Mode Works

Survival Mode takes place in a single arena. Every wave spawns a predetermined composition of enemies. After clearing a wave, you receive a brief rest period (5 seconds) before the next wave begins. Every 5 waves, a supply drop appears containing health, weapon ammo, or coins. Every 10 waves, a mini-boss spawns alongside the regular wave enemies. Every 25 waves, a full boss from the campaign appears.

Difficulty scaling is aggressive. Enemy health and damage increase by approximately 5% per wave. By Wave 30, regular grunts have the stats of elite enemies from the campaign. By Wave 50, everything hits like a truck and has health pools rivaling campaign bosses.

Optimal Survival Build

Unlike campaign stages where you can specialize, Survival Mode demands versatility and sustain. The recommended build is 4-piece Guardian's Set + Iron Will Amulet. The Guardian 4-piece regeneration below 30% HP is a literal lifesaver in later waves when health pickups are rare. The Iron Will Amulet's damage reduction while stationary lets you hold ground against waves that would otherwise push you around the arena.

For upgrades, prioritize: Max Health → Punch Damage → Special Cooldown → Movement Speed. Health is paramount — you will take damage, and you need enough of a buffer to survive between supply drops. Punch damage kills enemies faster, reducing the time you spend in danger. Special cooldown lets you use your panic-button special move more frequently. Movement speed helps you dodge the increasingly fast attacks of late-wave enemies.

Survival Priority

In later waves, survival trumps score. Do not chase combos if it means taking damage. Do not greed for coins if an enemy is winding up. Staying alive is how you reach high waves — the score will come naturally from clearing more waves.

Wave-by-Wave Strategy

Waves 1-10: The Warm-Up

Comfortable waves with basic enemies. Use this time to preserve your resources. Kill enemies efficiently, collect all coins, but do not use special moves or weapon ammo. You will need those later. Aim to enter Wave 11 at full health with all cooldowns ready.

Waves 11-20: The Ramp-Up

Enemy density increases significantly. Shield bearers and archers appear together, forcing you to manage multiple threat types simultaneously. Ranged enemies first, then melee. You can still take occasional hits at this stage, but start playing more conservatively. The Wave 15 supply drop is your first major health top-up — do not waste it if your health is already high.

Waves 21-35: The Danger Zone

This is where most runs end. Enemy damage is now significant — two or three hits can kill a character without health upgrades. Every hit matters. The Wave 25 boss (random campaign boss) is the first major threat. Fight it exactly as you would in the campaign, but be aware that regular enemies continue to spawn during the boss fight — you must manage the boss and adds simultaneously.

Elite enemies (glowing aura) appear in every wave from Wave 30 onward. They have double the health and damage of normal enemies. Use your special move on elites — it is the most efficient use of your special cooldown in Survival Mode.

Waves 36-50: The Gauntlet

By Wave 36, every enemy hits hard enough to threaten your run. Group control is essential — use kicks and AOE attacks to keep enemies at a distance. The Guardian regeneration becomes your primary source of healing since supply drops are 10 waves apart.

Waves 40-45 introduce double elite waves — two elite enemies simultaneously. This is the hardest individual challenge in Survival Mode. Separate them (bait one to move away from the other) and fight them one at a time. If they stay together, use hit-and-run tactics with jump kicks to deal damage safely.

Wave 50 is the milestone. Reaching it requires mastery of every game mechanic. If you can reach Wave 50, you have truly conquered Survival Mode. Beyond Wave 50, the scaling becomes extreme and only the most skilled players with maxed-out gear can push further.

Survival Mode Don'ts
  • Do not stand still. Constant movement makes you harder for enemies to target.
  • Do not ignore ranged enemies. An archer you ignore for 10 seconds will chip away a quarter of your health.
  • Do not use your special move on regular enemies. Save it for elites and bosses.
  • Do not give up if you die before Wave 10. Every run teaches you something. Survival Mode is a marathon of learning.
